Hoover Angus

A visit down to southern Iowa to look at another Angus operation in Hoover Angus Farm. Hoover is a family owned operation and is one of the oldest Angus herds in the United States. We first started with a look at their herd sires. Some of these bulls included Hoover Headliner J32, Connealy Reward, Sydgen Journey 8200 and 10 year old T C Gridiron 258. Hoover has also heavily used Sydgen C C & 7, a bull that has also been used in Australia. They have a 400 cow breeding herd in which they use a combination of EPD’s and phenotype to breed their cattle. We also looked around at some spring & autumn yearling heifers, autumn bulls to be sold in their annual sale in February next year, cows and calves as well as some cows that are due to calve this autumn. They will calve 100 females this autumn with 80 cows and 20 heifers. Also in the group of cows and calves that we toured was some full ET siblings to ABS & ORIgen sire, Hoover Dam.
